ਰਤਾ ਅਗਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਅਸਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਅੰਕਿਤ ਹੈ : The Punjabee language is confessedly of mixed origin : a great part is derived from the sangs-krit, the common pond of all the Indian languages ; and a great part also from the Arabic, Persian, Pushto and other languages spoken in the vicinity of the Punjab. Most of these words are much altered from their original form ; though easily recognizable by any person acquainted with those languages.24 ੩. ਬੋਲੀ : ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਵਿਆਕਰਣ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਰਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਭ ਉਦਾਹਰਣਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਛਾਪੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ । ੪. ਵਸਤੂ : ਇਸ ਵਿਆਕਰਣ ਦੇ ੯੯ ਸਫ਼ੇ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖੇ ਸਤ ਕਾਂਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੰਡੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ : (1) Section I-of letters ui3t, vowels, consonants, ਵਰਗ-ਵੰਡ, ਆਵਾਜ਼ਾਂ (2) Section II-of the compounding of letters ਲਗਾਂ ਮਾਤਰਾਂ (3) Section III-of words, parts of speech ਪੁਰਖ cases ਲਿੰਗ, ਵਚਨ, (4) Section 1V-of Adjectives : ਬਣਤਰਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖਾਸੀਅਤਾਂ (5) Section V-of Pronouns ੨੪. ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਅਸਲਾ, ਨਿਰਸੰਦੇਹ, ਮਿਸਰਤ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸਭ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਸੋਮੇ, ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਰਬੀ, ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ, ਪਸ਼ਤੋ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਚਾਗੇ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਰ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਚੋਖਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ । ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ । ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਸਜਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਹੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ । ੩੨] C॥
