muar ੨. ਭੂਮਿਕਾ : ਇਸ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਲੇਖਕ ਨੇ ਆਪੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਦੀ ਵਿੱਤ ਤੇ ਆਸ਼ਾ ਦਸਦਿਆਂ ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ : The following sheets are intended to furnish short and appropriate rules for the acquisition of this language without attemtping any remarks upon the nature of grammar in general.21 ਅੱਗੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਇਉਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ : The language which this grammar is intended to teach is spoken by the Shikhs, that singular people, who inhabit the Punjab, or the country lying between the Sutlej and the Indus.22 ਇਸ ਬੋਲੀ ਭਾਵ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਲਿਪੀ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਮਹਾਨ ਬਦੇਸੀ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ-ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ-ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਵਾਦ-ਵਿਵਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਲਗ ਭਗ ਡੇਢ ਸੌ ਵਰਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਸੀ - Guru Granth is written in a peculiar character, called Gooroo-Mookhee Naguree, on which acount they have a peculiar veneration for that character and, with few exceptions. use it in all transactions. That character is there-fore used in the following work, as that which properly belongs to the language.23 21. ਖੁਲਾ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ : ਅਗਲੇ ਸਫ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਬੋਲੀ ਸਿਖਣ ਲਈ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਤੇ ਯੋਗ ਨੇਮ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ । ਇਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਮ ਵਿਆਕਰਣ ਦੇ ਅਸਲ ਨਸਲ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਲਿਖਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਇਆ । 22, ਜਿਸ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਵਿਆਕਰਣ ਰਚਿਆ ਗਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਹ ਅਭਟਿੱਠ ਜਹੇ ਲੋਕ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਜਾਂ ਸਿੰਧ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਲਜ ਵਿਚਕਾਰਲੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । 23, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲਿਪੀ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ । ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਲਿਪੀ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ । ਓਹ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਲਿਖ-ਪੜ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਲੈਣ ਦੇਣ ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਵਿਚ ਇਹੋ ਲਿਪੀ ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹੋ ਇਸ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਠੀਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਲਿਪੀ ਹੈ। [੩੧
